When Renown Health came to us needing a new structure to house their top-of-the-line physical therapy facility – and quick – we were excited to roll up our sleeves and get to work.
Curtis Brothers Construction has long been a proud building partner of Renown Health, the largest locally owned not-for-profit healthcare network in Northern Nevada. So when Renown said “we need it fast,” we said “Consider It Done!” They approached us at the end of February 2021, we provided them with a proposal on March 1st, began the build at the end of March, and finished the project by the end of July.
Our total time from project start to facility operation was a little over four months – all without sacrificing safety or quality
About the Project
The objective of the project was to take what was already the most advanced physical therapy center in Northern Nevada and move it next door into a more spacious building on the Renown campus. Curtis Bros. Construction took everything down to the framing studs that make up the adjacent suite. From there we added brand new framing, HVAC, drywall, ceiling grid, oneway glass, windows and high-end finishes.
In addition to the build, we refitted the Solo Step, an overhead track system with a harness that allows therapists to help patients learn how to walk again and regain mobility without the fear of falling. This is the only outpatient physical therapy in Northern Nevada with a system like it. Structural engineering was required to support the track within the structure of the building. Curtis Bros. worked with Solo Step to ensure the system track mounting was fitted safely in the new building to withhold weight of the patient and any additional weights.
Anterooms for Clean Hospital Construction
Curtis Bros. Construction used an anteroom during the build to allow all other medical facilities in the building to continue treating patients safely. Considered a vital tool for mitigating the spread of hospital-acquired infections (HAIs), anterooms help control the flow of contaminated air between the renovation site and sensitive, patient-occupied areas. Using Stark Systems Containment, we built a rigid wall structure from ceiling grid to floor and created an airtight seal to keep construction dust inside the construction area and outside this common hallway.
From there, we pulled hallway air into the construction field through three sets of HEPA filters (which remove 99.9 percent of dust particulates) to keep the air sanitary. The sanitized hallway air then hits 2 sets of prefilters to enter the work space area, and is finally sucked from the room and pushed out of the building, creating the anteroom. These extra containment steps are particularly important for the medical industry and allowed Renown to continue to provide the highest level of patient care possible even during construction.
